When Is a Script Ready to Submit?
Ready means the draft has survived informed feedback, deliberate revision, and a final technical check.
The principle
Submission uses social capital and reader attention. The screenplay should represent your current best ability, not merely the relief of reaching FADE OUT. You should be able to discuss its premise, tone, audience, and revision choices without pretending it is flawless.
Put it to work
- Use a small group of readers who understand the genre and give specific reactions.
- Let at least one person read a clean PDF without your explanation.
- Check title page, filename, page order, typos, missing words, and recipient requirements.
Common mistakes
- Buying evaluations for an unrevised first draft.
- Sending a corrected file repeatedly after submission.
- Waiting for universal praise.
